Michelle, you ignorant…

June 26, 2012

Poor Michelle Antoinette was caught on video at the 9/11 Anniversary in 2011 saying, “All this for a damn flag”, and it caused quite a stir…as well it should.

Michelle would perhaps profit from reading a few of the following quotes, presented in no particular order, to comprehend a little of what this “damn flag” means to normal American citizens.  Or maybe not.  In any case they are presented for you, Dear Reader, because you are smarter than Michelle anyway.  Enjoy!

If anyone, then, asks me the meaning of our flag, I say to him – it means just what Concord and Lexington meant; what Bunker Hill meant; which was, in short, the rising up of a valiant young people against an old tyranny to establish the most momentous doctrine that the world had ever known – the right of men to their own selves and to their liberties.  – Henry Ward Beecher

That piece of red, white and blue bunting means five thousand years of struggle upwards.  It is the full-grown flower of ages of fighting for liberty.  It is the century plant of human hope in bloom.    – Alvin Owsley

The flag of the United States has not been created by rhetorical sentences in declarations of independence and in bills of rights.  It has been created by the experience of a great people, and nothing is written upon it that has not been written by their life.  It is the embodiment, not of a sentiment, but of a history.  – Woodrow Wilson

As long as I live, I will never forget that day 21 years ago when I raised my hand and took the oath of citizenship. Do you know how proud I was? I was so proud that I walked around with an American flag around my shoulders all day long.  – Arnold Schwarzenegger

Behold a republic standing erect while empires all around are bowed beneath the weight of their own armaments – a republic whose flag is loved while other flags are only feared.  – William Jennings Bryan

I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and it’s marked by the blood of those who died defending it.  – John Thune

I have loved but one flag and I can not share that devotion and give affection to the mongrel banner invented for the League of Nations.  – Henry Cabot Lodge

Let it be borne on the flag under which we rally in every exigency, that we have one country, one constitution, one destiny.  – Daniel Webster

Martin Luther King, Jr. didn’t carry just a piece of cloth to symbolize his belief in racial equality; he carried the American flag.  – Adrian Cronauer

Our flag honors those who have fought to protect it, and is a reminder of the sacrifice of our nation’s founders and heroes. As the ultimate icon of America’s storied history, the Stars and Stripes represents the very best of this nation.  – Joe Barton

The American flag is the most recognized symbol of freedom and democracy in the world.  – Virginia Foxx
