Slavery or Freedom – Which Will You Choose?
We have three simple choices before us this coming election:
- Re-elect Obama and let the State run our lives
- Elect Romney and let Big Business run our lives
- Elect someone who will support and defend our Constitutional rights
In deciding between the above choices, I call your attention to the first sentence of the Declaration of Independence,
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The genius and power of this statement must not be trivialized. Before our Creator, we are all equal with regard to the natural rights of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”. They are our birthright as human beings, and no one person or group of people possess a superior right to take them from us.
However, because threats to natural rights will always exist, our Founders explained how we are to protect them,
“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”
The only function of government is to protect our “unalienable Rights”. That’s it. Government has no other function, and in fact can exist only because we give our consent for it to serve us. Furthermore, if our government oversteps its well-defined boundaries, the Founders admonish us to correct the problem,
“That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
Thus, we can add another right to the list of “unalienable Rights” – the right to keep government in check, or substitute a new form of government that will preserve and protect our Rights.
Our upcoming elections provide a powerful mechanism for us to keep government from exceeding its authority, and our choices are clear: Subservience to either Government or Big Business, or the election of an individual dedicated to preserving the Rights granted to us by our Creator.
I choose the latter, and will vote only for the person who is equipped and dedicated to reversing the dangerous course that both Government and Big Business have set for us. I will not be a slave either to the State or to Corporate America.
Even if I have to write-in his name during the General Election in November, I will stand with and vote for Newt Gingrich. There is no other sane choice for a thinking America concerned with the preservation of our Natural Rights.
